Welcome back! Students and Staff we are so glad to have you back in our buildings! School is open and we are anticipating a wonderful start!
Our Roane County School Board attended the Tennessee School Board Association Summer Law Institute at the end of July. During this conference they were provided with a review of new and relevant state laws, in addition to state and federal school-related court decisions. The School Board also took this opportunity to combine it with the Board Retreat. This was a time set aside to focus specifically on the needs of our students, staff, community and what can be accomplished to make Roane County Schools excel!

Roane County Schools Administrators and Supervisors kicked off the new school year with an opening meeting earlier this week. After a motivating message and charge from Director of Schools, Russell Jenkins, attendees heard from various departments learning what's new and upcoming across the district. A very special thank you to Rockwood Electric Utility for hosting the event.
Roane County Schools provides students with the opportunity for open enrollment at each school within the district. Families must provide transportation if the school is outside their bus zone. State law requires districts to publish open enrollment numbers before school starts. If you wish to attend a school outside of your bus zone, please contact the school by August 1st to complete “Out of District” paperwork and request enrollment for your child. Placement will depend on the number of open seats and the number of applicants. How's Your Internet?
Roane County's Broadband Accelerate Program needs your help. Your participation in a short survey will help improve your community's access to dependable and affordable internet service.
We need input from as many residents as possible to improve Roane County's chances of receiving grants, from the State of TN, for internet (broadband) access.
The survey will measure the current level of service in our homes and businesses. Taking the survey does not commit you to anything - it is just a means to find where reliable and affordable service is needed. This information will not be released to the public.
We ask that you complete this short survey only once by July 6, 2023.
If you'd rather complete this survey on line, go to:

Summer is a time for teachers to rest, relax, and recharge. Many of our teachers take the time to develop new skills they will use in their classrooms when school starts. Eva Robbins (OSHS) and Mary Coulter (MHS) spent a week on the campus of MTSU learning all there is to know about Computer Science! Our students will be ready to meet the new graduation requirements before the school year 2024-2025! Thank you ladies for pushing forward to bring Computer Science to your schools!
Congratulations to Sydney Steimel who placed 2nd in the state of Tennessee in Microsoft Excel certification testing! Way to go Sydney!

This week teachers from the schools in Oliver Springs attended The Chatt Fab Institute. They were stretched outside of their comfort zones when asked to answer the following question: How can digital fabrication tools be used to create an interactive interpretation of an expression of art? These teachers rose to the challenge and created a fabulous piece! The challenge asked them to use tools, learn to code, work together and communicate in ways they had never thought about. They left with lots of knowledge, a deeper understanding of what students face when presented with Essential Questions requiring them to use brand new skills and thought process to solve, and a network full of teachers who learned to support each other and find success.
The Chattanooga Fab Institute is a 3-day digital fabrication conference presented by Public Education Foundation and Hamilton County Schools that offers educators an opportunity to engage in authentic experiences with 3D printing, laser engraving/cutting, vinyl cutting, CNC routing, micro-computing, and much more!
This was the 5th annual institute for educators eager to learn more about how the world's largest FabLab network, VW eLabs, is transforming education!
My name is Mrs. Billie Goldston. I am honored to accept the Assistant Principal position at Cherokee Middle School! I look forward to serving the students, families, faculty, and community. Over the past 22 years in education, I have focused on building strong relationships, preparing students for success, both in and out of the classroom, and encouraging others to “change the world”. I truly believe there is magic in education and every student deserves the very best we can provide! I am excited to be a part of the Cherokee family!
